Lynn Grant, Co-Owner/Operator

Lynn Grant operates a mixed grass, hay and cattle operation at Val Marie with his family and brother, Dean. Lynn graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1973.

The Grant’s (Lynn & Dean) have farmed and ranched in Southwest Saskatchewan for over 40 years and since 1986 have been experimenting with various grass management strategies.  These include – intensive planned grazing, rejuvenation of native & old seeded pastures, solar watering systems, and electric fencing. They have converted grain land to forage for both grazing and hay production and is continually working on improvement.

Lynn & wife, Sherri, received the “Outstanding Young Farmer for Canada” award in 1990.

Lynn is Past President of Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association. As president, Lynn was instrumental in getting the Grazing and Pasture Technology project off the ground in 1990. This program provided innovative information to Farmers and Ranchers. From 2004 to 2015 Lynn was a Director of the Canadian Cattleman’s Association and served as Chair of the Environment Committee.

Lynn firmly believes that agriculture can be not only a profitable business but can also be a major contributor to soil health, wildlife habitat and biodiversity. Lynn refers to himself as the Ranch Gopher because he is always running for bits and pieces for everyone else.

Sherri, Lynn’s wife, wears many hats on the ranch; from bookkeeping, secretary, and running people to the field, you can say she truly, does it all.  Sherri graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics in 1974, but her learning hasn’t stopped there.

Sherri has served on many boards over the years.  Some of which she has been passionately involved with include: Val Marie Ambulance, and Canadian Western Agribition. She was awarded the Farm Credit Canada Rosemary Davis Women in Agriculture Award in 2013.  Sherri was featured by Chatelaine Magazine in the top 100 Women Entrepreneurs in 2000. One of her most recent endeavours is “Where Beef Comes From,” a children’s book she co-wrote with daughter-in-law Avery Grant which is now a featured book for Agriculture in the Classroom.

In her ‘spare’ time Sherri enjoys photographing her world.  She is passionate about capturing the life around her: the ranch, flora and fauna, as well as her growing family, especially her 11 grandchildren. If you would like to purchase photos her website is www.sherrigrant.ca

Sherri is also certified as a Master Coach and Positivity Practitioner.

Dean Grant, Co-Owner/Operator

Dean, Lynn’s brother, is co-owner of Grant Ranch.  He attended the University of Calgary until 1976 when he returned to Val Marie. Dean and Lynn have experimented with various ranching techniques, as they each take on various daily duties to keep things running smooth.

Dean has remained an active member in the community in a variety of capacities including: President of the Junior Member of Commerce, President and Secretary of the Val Marie Lions, Val Marie Rodeo Committee Member (30 years), President of the Rodeo Committee (17 years), and President of the Val Marie Recreation Board (25 years).   Dean is an advocate for ranching life and of Val Marie, volunteering his time to ensure events and social activities remain apart of the fabric that is small-town Saskatchewan.

Dean refers to himself as a cattleman, not a cowboy; offering that there is a big difference between the two.  He has mastered the art of roping and wrestling calves but states that working cattle is the most rewarding when the cattleman or two, can keep the livestock calm,  and still achieve the desired outcome.

Dean and wife, Danielle, have two children: Jessie and Cameron.  Together, they feel that the ranch offers an ideal way of living; in the words of Dean “I love what I do, and I am doing what I love.”

Jacques Beauchamp, Farm Manager/Mechanic

Jacques grew up in Gatineau, Quebec.  Having no real farm experience until the age of 16, Jacques quickly developed a passion for agriculture.  Jacques pursued his love of the industry attending the University of Guelph and obtaining a Diesel Equipment Mechanic Certificate.  He completed his Farm Equipment Technician Apprenticeship with Reis Equipment in Winchester and St. Bernadin, Ontario where he also used his skills as a bilingual employee, speaking French as his first language.

In 2010 he moved to Val Marie, Saskatchewan with his wife, Anne.  Jacques quickly became affiliated with Grant Ranch and found his niche. Jacques predominately works on maintaining equipment around the Ranch as well as managing the seeding and harvesting of crops.

Since moving to Val Marie, Jacques has served as Councillor for the Village since 2012.  He is always on the go and is always looking for innovative ways to improve whatever he is working on.

Jacques has two children he enjoys sharing his love of agriculture with. You can routinely see them tagging along to see what he is up to.
